The Prisoner, is a musical production written by Waiwera local; and Kingsway School Senior Biology Teacher, Chris Wyatt - as a consequence of his struggle with multiple myeloma cancer in 2014. The premiere performance of The Prisoner took place in October, 2015 from 17th – 24th
This all-original production uses the story of John the Baptist to grapple with the age-old question; “Why do bad things happen to good people?”
Chris says: "The treatment was horrendous and I faced death several times. I had questions of why this had happened to me. I started reading one book on John the Baptist and it impressed me. The author used him to grapple with the question and I thought it would make a good musical. John was fulfilling great promises over his life and yet he ended up in prison... There are positive ways of dealing with the troubles of life. There is a purpose for it all."
The Prisoner was performed to great acclaim at the Centrestage Theatre in Orewa from October 17-24, 2015, and raised funds for a very special charity, Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand, on Tuesday 20th October. Our desire was to support those who support others in their personal battles with cancer.
